Beginning Band
Middle School Band students at Ann Richards are tested by our staff to see what instrument best suits their interest and natural abilities. Students begin on either Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, or Percussion with the possibility of transitioning to other like instruments after one semester. This is an exciting time and we can't wait to share these wonderful experiences with you as you begin your journey in Band!
Middle School Band
The Ann Richards Middle School Concert Band is comprised of 7th and 8th grade students who have completed a full year of Beginning Band. The Middle School Concert Band participates in many performances throughout the year including Fine Arts Fridays, Winter and Spring concerts, and UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest. The Concert Band is one of the largest middle school groups on campus, and has a proud history of success at UIL and Band Festivals.
High School Symphonic Band
High School Band students that complete at least one year of a Middle School Band class advance to the High School Symphonic Band. These students all perform in the Marching Band in the Fall and prepare for a number of performances throughout the year, including our Winter Concert, TMEA Region Band Auditions, Solo & Ensemble, UIL Concert & Sight Reading Contest, and ARS Graduation.
Ann Richards Marching Stars
The Marching Stars is the pride of the Ann Richards School and is the largest student organization on campus. All High School Band and Color Guard students participate in the Marching Band during the Fall semester. The Marching Band attends a summer band camp, performs for ARS school events such as pep rallies and Ann Richards Foundation events, at community events such as parades and football games with other local high schools, and competes at UIL, BOA, and other Marching Band contests.
Color Guard
The Color Guard is open to all ARS High School students. In the Fall, the guard is the visual interpretation of the music in the Marching Band production. In the Spring semester, the Winter Guard performs as it's own group and competes at local Winter Guard contests. Students in the Color Guard are enrolled in the Color Guard class, which teaches and trains performers in dance and equipment skills of all levels.
