How will I select my instrument?

Instrument placement will take place during New Student Orientation Day for all incoming students.  Just bring yourself and follow the signs at the front of the school! We will provide all of the equipment for you to use. No musical experience is needed! Everyone will try out on a Basic Instrument (Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone). You have a choice to also try out the color Instruments (French Horn, Tuba, Euphonium, Oboe, Bassoon, Saxophone, Percussion).

Please email linda.aguilar@austinisd.org if you have not received the supply list!

Why choose band?

The National Association of Middle School Principals states that 66% of all college freshman drop out in their first year. In contrast, 96% of band students graduate from higher education.

Music students average 66 points higher on their SAT than their peers who are not involved in music.

The #1 undergraduate major for students applying to medical school is music… second to Pre Med.

96% of American astronauts studied the fine arts in school, including Neil Armstrong who played the euphonium!

Admission criteria into most major universities recommend participation in an extracurricular activity through senior year of high school.

And most importantly it provides you with an opportunity to join a family dedicated to building young women leaders who commit to a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle, lead with courage and compassion, and solve problems creatively and ethically in support of their global community.
