Every parent or guardian of a student in the Ann Richards Band and Color Guard is automatically a member of the Booster organization. Family, alumni, and friends are also welcome to join!

The Boosters play a vital role in supporting the program through the many events and activities that take place each year. Our Executive Board leads the organization, with elections for these volunteer positions held at the final General Membership meeting of the school year.

Ann Richards Band – Tamalada 2025 Q&A

Thank you to all the families who have signed up to participate in this year’s Annual Tamalada!

We know the holiday season is busy, and this year we intentionally created a shorter window and fewer activities so the event can grow gradually  without overwhelming our students and families.

Your support helps us keep this beloved tradition alive while building connection, and community pride.

And fundraising!

Below is everything you need to know about the needs, timeline, and execution of this year’s event.

Q: Who is making the tamales, and how many are we making?

A: We have invited families experienced in making tamales to help prepare 250 dozen tamales this season:

  • 120 dozen chicken

  • 110 dozen pork

  • 20 dozen vegan rajas

Want to help? There’s still time to sign up:

Q: Will there be an in-person event to help make tamales?

A: Yes! Two of our amazing band parents have offered their home on Friday from 12 - ? and Saturday all day for families wanting to participate in the hands-on tamale-making sessions.

Q: If I want to make tamales, how many dozen do I have to commit to?

A: It’s completely up to you!
A great starting point is 6 dozen, but please only sign up for what you can reasonably make, keeping food safety, preparation time, and storage in mind.

Q: I want to donate ingredients. How can I help?

A: Thank you! Visit this link to make a donation: Tamalada Donation | Ann Richards Band

Q: How do we order tamales?

A: Orders can be placed online only through the Band website on the shop page: 1 Dozen Tamales | Ann Richards Band

Use the ordering link yourself, and share it with teachers, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and family! People can pick up directly from the school during the event on Friday 12/12, or opt to have them brought to them. Please arrange this with anyone who purchases from you directly.
Be sure they enter their favorite Band member’s name on the form so we can connect you with any tamales that students or volunteers will be delivering.

Q: Will there be more tamales to buy at or after the event?

A: We will continue selling tamales until we sell out!
However, our goal is to have all orders pre-sold by 12/12.

Q: What if someone just wants to donate money?

A: Wonderful! Please thank them warmly and send them to this link: Tamalada Donation | Ann Richards Band

Q: What can I expect at the Tamalada event?

A: From 4:45 PM to 6:45 PM, anyone who ordered tamales or poinsettias is invited to pick them up in The Commons. Students can also pick up orders they are hand delivering during this time.
This year we’re keeping things simple and focused, but our long-term vision is to grow this into a school-wide holiday bazaar in future years! [Do you love this idea and want to help with future organizing? Fantastic! Contact us at the email address below.]

Q: Our family ordered a lot. Will we have help loading items?

A: Absolutely! Our Band students will be available with wagons to help transport plants and tamales to your car.

Q: I heard there will be holiday photos. Can you tell me more?

A: Yes! Our incredible Band photographer, Juan Carlos, will be hosting a mini holiday photo station.

  • Sessions are about 5 minutes

  • You’ll receive up to 3 edited digital images

  • Great for family pics, friends, siblings (no pets, please!)

Volunteer Opportunities

Parents can make an enormous difference in their child’s education if they are actively involved with them at school. There are numerous opportunities to provide help and assistance throughout the year. Some of the many ways the booster’s help are: help with water breaks for summer band camp, chaperone buses, transport instruments, drive trucks, help with the pit crew, and attend events. Don’t wait to be asked, choose an area or an activity and just show up and get involved! Working with the band and all the wonderful students is a true blessing and a great way to make new friends who share a common passion and goal! Become an integral part of the Ann Richards Band organization and help to make a difference, not only in the program, but also in the lives of the students involved.

Fundraiser Opportunities

The Stars Band Booster Association assists the band financially throughout the year. They raise money for items the band may need throughout the year and to help subsidize the band fair share and the cost of band trips. Please consider donating your time to help keep this organization going!
